Bâoli Dubai

Bâoli Dubai stands on J1 Beach in Jumeirah 1, Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, on the Arabian Gulf. It is the Dubai house of Bâoli, a name brought from Cannes; at the opening the waiters were flown in from the Cannes establishment. The building is permanent, half indoor and half outdoor, around an infinity pool that looks out over the Gulf, with beds on the pool deck and on the sand.

The day is sold as Pool & Beach, daily from ten in the morning to eight in the evening: lounge beds, beach sunbeds and pool sunbeds, gazebos, islands and pool suites, and two private cabanas, with a menu served to the beds and a DJ. The operator publishes no figure; the price varies. Reservations go by telephone and e-mail. On the pool and beach, guests of sixteen to twenty-one must come with a parent or guardian, and children under six are not admitted. The restaurant and bar stay open until two in the morning.

Two businesses on one site. The operator describes itself as a sanctuary by day and a sensation by night: the beds close at eight, and the room then turns to dinner and DJ nights that run past midnight.

A French kitchen with Japanese technique. The menu is coastal French and Mediterranean, finished with Japanese and East Asian methods and laid out for sharing; a reviewer singled out the lobster udon.

The pool as much as the sea. The infinity pool is the centre of the club, and the operator names pool beds and beach beds as separate things to book.
