Riva Beach
A family beach club on the Shoreline of Palm Jumeirah, sold by the day pass with most of the price returned as food and drink credit.
Riva Beach Club stands at Building 8 of The Shoreline on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, on the Arabian Gulf with the Burj Al Arab in view across the water. It has its own private beach and a pool, and is open every day from seven in the morning to eleven at night. It presents itself as a family club and admits pets.
The day is sold as a pool and beach pass. At weekends, Friday to Sunday, the adult pass costs 175 dirhams and includes 150 dirhams of food and drink credit; a cheaper weekday pass also carries most of its price as credit, and children have their own rate. A two-hour drinks package is sold at weekends. No outside food or drink is allowed. Parking is free, and the club takes bookings by phone, WhatsApp and e-mail; it also runs a membership.
The pass is mostly lunch. Nearly all of what a visitor pays comes back as credit at the restaurant, so the entry is closer to a minimum spend than to a fee.
A beach for children. A guide describes a heated pool with a separate children's pool, a playground and an inflatable bouncer, with face painting on offer.
Water from the sand. Kayaks, paddleboards and wakeboarding are run from the beach by an outside watersports company.
Who it is not for
Riva Beach is wrong for anyone who wants an adult, quiet day: the club courts families and admits dogs. It is wrong for someone who plans to bring a picnic, as outside food and drink are not allowed. And it is wrong for a swimmer who wants a soft, open strand, because a guide describes the beach as sandy but sometimes rocky, on the built shore of the Palm.
