Byron Bathers Club

An Australian-themed restaurant hub on the Shoreline of Palm Jumeirah, with a sand terrace sold by sunbed minimum spend.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · operator confirmation pending

The Byron Bathers Club stands in the Al Manhal Building on Shoreline 4 of Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, facing the Arabian Gulf. It is run by Tom Arnel's EatX group and took the place of Bidi Bondi, which closed in the first quarter of 2021; the new club was due to open in February 2022. It draws its theme from Byron Bay in Australia and has three parts: Byron's Bar & Bistro, Ulu's Oyster Bar and Tigerlily's Beach, the restaurant set on the sand.

Tigerlily's Beach is open daily from ten until sunset. The day is sold by the place, each carrying a minimum spend: a regular sunbed at 200 dirhams, a premium one at 300 and a sofa set at 1,500. The Daycation, sold per person at 125 dirhams, gives a starter, main course and dessert with access to the pool and the beach; an upgrade with drinks costs 195. Bookings go through the operator's booking page, by e-mail, phone or WhatsApp.

A restaurant before a beach. The sand is one of three dining rooms rather than the centre of the place; the bistro opens from breakfast and runs to late at night.

Seafood at the core. Ulu's Oyster Bar sells from a market display and a seafood tower, and the house puts sustainable seafood first.

Children provided for. A play area beside the oyster bar is visible from the outdoor tables.

Who it is not for

The Byron Bathers Club is wrong for anyone looking for a long natural beach: the sand is a terrace on the man-made shore of the Palm. It is wrong for a quiet adult-only day, because the place sets out to receive families and has a playground. And it is wrong for someone who wants the beach after dark, since Tigerlily's Beach closes at sunset.
