Sublime Comporta Beach Club

The beach outpost of the Sublime Comporta hotel, on the dunes at Carvalhal, with a fish restaurant on the boardwalk and loungers rented in summer.

Sublime Comporta Beach Club stands on Praia do Carvalhal, in Carvalhal, reached by a wooden walkway through the dunes. It belongs to the Sublime Comporta hotel, which stands away from the beach, and it combines two things: a restaurant above the sand, and a beach service with its own bar, which the hotel lists as Praia Beach Club – Sunbeds.

The day on the sand is sold as rental: sun loungers and parasols are available for rent, subject to availability, during the beach season from May to September, from ten in the morning to seven in the evening. The operator publishes no price for them on the page read. Requests go to a dedicated reservations address for sun loungers or to the beach club's telephone. The beach bar serves snacks. The restaurant is in the Michelin Guide, which describes its cooking as traditional and singles out its fresh fish and seafood and its cocktails.

Two products under one name. The loungers and the restaurant are run as separate services, with separate hours and their own booking lines.

A summer-only beach. The loungers are out only from May to September; at the time of reading the beach season had ended.

Fish first. The restaurant's reputation rests on fish and seafood rather than on music or a scene.

Who it is not for

Sublime Comporta Beach Club is wrong for a beach day out of season: the loungers are rented only from May to September. It is wrong for anyone who wants a price before they write, because none is published. And it is wrong for someone who wants a lounger guaranteed on a peak day without booking, since rental is subject to availability.
