Sur Beach House
The beach house of the Bahia Hotel on Médano Beach, where the day is sold as a food and drink minimum credited to the bill.
SUR Beach House stands on Médano Beach at Cabo San Lucas, on Avenida El Pescador; its upper deck looks out to Land's End. It belongs to the Bahia Hotel, a short walk or a half-minute golf-cart ride up the hill, and opened in 2016 as a venture with the restaurant Bar Esquina: a two-storey building with a bar, lounges and open-air dining below and the deck above. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
The beach is open to hotel guests and to visitors from outside, subject to availability. There is no conventional day pass: access is sold as a minimum spend on food and drink, credited in full against the bill, and includes beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and lounge seating by the water. Reservations go through OpenTable, where the Beach Day was listed at 1,750 Mexican pesos a person, including a food and drink credit of one hundred US dollars. Showers and valet parking are provided.
A restaurant that owns a beach day. The kitchen is the reason for the place: Baja cooking, king crab, ceviche and local fish, with zero-proof cocktails beside the wine list.
On the water, not only by it. Paddleboards, kayaks, snorkelling and a glass-bottom boat to Land's End are offered from the sand.
Built for gatherings. The house takes events of up to two hundred guests, from weddings to company dinners, with a DJ and live saxophone on its calendar.
Who it is not for
SUR Beach House is wrong for anyone who wants a cheap day on the sand: the beach is sold only against a food and drink minimum, and there is no plain day pass. It is wrong for someone who wants seclusion, because the house has a DJ and live music and takes events of up to two hundred. And it is wrong for a visitor who turns up without a booking: reservations are strongly recommended and places are subject to availability.
