C Beach Club
The shared beach club of the Bel Ombre estate in the south of Mauritius, sold to outsiders by day pass, with a large pool and a lagoon of non-motorised sport.
C Beach Club stands on the Domaine de Bel Ombre, on the south coast of Mauritius, between two hotels of the same group, Heritage Le Telfair and Heritage Awali, and the Heritage Golf Club. It is run by Heritage Resorts and is not a hotel: it is a club on the sand and the lagoon, open both to the group's hotel residents and to people not staying on the estate. Its pool covers more than six hundred square metres.
The day is sold as a day pass, booked through the club by telephone or e-mail. The operator lists what it covers: a welcome cocktail, the beach loungers, the pool and a locker, beach towels, non-motorised water sports, wifi and parking, with food and drink at à la carte prices and half price for children of three to twelve. The operator does not publish the price of the pass on its page. The kitchen serves breakfast from half past eight, lunch from noon to three and dinner from seven to ten; lunch is relaxed, and from half past six the dress is smart casual, with trousers, closed shoes and collared shirts for men.
Open to the estate and beyond it. The club serves the group's hotel residents, and the pass opens it to people not staying on the estate.
A long list on the water. Paddle boards, kayaks, pedal boats, windsurfing and Laser dinghies sit alongside paid trips: glass-bottom boat, catamaran, kitesurfing lessons, dolphin watching and big-game fishing.
Built for families. The pool is described as child-friendly, and the pass halves for children.
Who it is not for
C Beach Club is wrong for someone who wants an adults-only day: it is laid out for families, with a children's rate and a child-friendly pool. It is wrong for a visitor who wants to know the price before calling, because the operator does not publish it. And it is wrong for a man arriving for dinner in shorts and sandals, given the evening dress code.
