Mantamar

Mantamar stands on Los Muertos beach in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta, on the Bay of Banderas on Mexico's Pacific coast, at Amapas 380. It belongs to the Almar group, whose adults-only resort for LGBTQ+ guests stands a few steps away; a stay at Almar includes access to the club. A local guide gives 2014 as the year it opened. The club is for adults only.

The day is sold by the seat: loungers with umbrellas on the beach, cabanas by the pool and on a rooftop terrace, and gazebos, reserved through the operator's own online booking. The operator also lists packages from Monday to Friday, on 72 hours' notice, at 15,000 Mexican pesos for two, 25,000 for four and 40,000 for twelve. A local guide gives the hours as daily from eleven in the morning to eight in the evening, except on holidays and in peak weeks, and describes paid entry with towels and use of the facilities for the day.

The pool above the beach. The club is built around a large infinity pool with jacuzzis and a swim-up counter, looking over the sand to the bay; the sea is below, not at the foot of the lounger.

A weekend of parties. DJs play pool parties every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the club runs its own events through the winter, around Thanksgiving and the New Year.

A kitchen under a palapa. Food is served under a thatched roof, from Mexican snacks and seafood to a long sushi menu.
