Millers Beach
A seasonal beach pavilion on the Zuiderstrand at The Hague, where the ordinary beds are rented on the day and only the paired luxury beds can be booked.
Millers Beach stands at beach entrance 7 on the Zuiderstrand, the southern beach of The Hague, on the North Sea. It is a strandpaviljoen, a seasonal pavilion on the sand that closes for the winter months, and it is the beach house of Millers, which also keeps a place in the city centre on the Plein. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner from a charcoal grill, with sangria by the jug.
The day is sold by the piece, at prices the operator publishes: a beach bed at twelve euros fifty, a windscreen at ten, a parasol at ten. The ordinary beds are not reserved; they go on a first come, first served basis. Only the luxury beds can be booked: each takes two people, costs fifty euros and comes with full service, a bottle of Cava and mineral water, and the house holds it until noon. Bookings and questions go to the pavilion by telephone or e-mail.
Booking only at the top. Most of the beach is taken by whoever arrives first; a reservation buys the luxury bed and nothing else, and it lapses at midday.
Priced by the piece. Bed, windscreen and parasol are each rented separately, so a day costs what is taken and no minimum spend is published.
Gone in winter. The pavilion is seasonal, and in the winter months the beach tent is closed.
Who it is not for
Millers Beach is wrong for someone who wants a guaranteed ordinary bed: those cannot be booked. It is wrong for a late riser who has booked a luxury bed, since it is held only until noon. And it is wrong for a winter visit, when the pavilion is closed.
