A casual beach restaurant on Siloso Beach, Sentosa, with sunbeds let by the day on a first-come basis and no pool.
Coastes stands at 50 Siloso Beach Walk on Siloso Beach, on Sentosa island in Singapore, a few minutes' walk from Beach Station. It is one of a run of bars and clubs along the same sand. It describes itself as a casual beach place with seating on a deck, on the sand and at the water's edge, and one guide calls it more a beachside restaurant than a beach club.
The day is sold by the sunbed, strictly first come, first served. Each bed takes up to two people for the whole day at thirty Singapore dollars, with iced tea included and, by one guide's account, no minimum spend. Tables are reserved separately, through a booking form or Chope, and a form alone does not confirm the table. It opens at eleven on weekdays and at nine on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and closes in the evening.
A bed you cannot book. The sunbeds are not reserved in advance; the way to get one is to arrive early.
Built for families. The operator lists a children's play area, baby chairs, a nappy-changing station and showers, and one family guide notes that dogs are welcome.
Weekend breakfast, then the whole day. Breakfast is served at weekends, followed by all-day dining of burgers, pizza, pasta and seafood, with beer, cocktails and house wine.
Who it is not for
Coastes is wrong for anyone who wants a pool or the service of a full beach club: there is no pool. It is wrong for a visitor who must be sure of a bed before arriving, since sunbeds cannot be booked. And it is wrong for a late night, as the kitchen closes in the evening.
