XANA Beach Club

XANA Beach Club stands on Bang Tao Beach at Choeng Thale, in Thalang district on Phuket, as part of Angsana Laguna Phuket in the Laguna complex; Angsana is a brand of the Banyan Tree group. It opened on 1 July 2012, beside the newly renovated Angsana resort, the former Sheraton, as a venture between Angsana, Laguna and Attica, a club from Singapore. Bang Tao has a run of beach clubs, among them Catch, Carpe Diem, RAVA, NORA and The Beach Phuket.

The day runs from ten to six and is sold by the place, each price carrying most of itself back as credit for food and drink: a solo sun lounger at THB 950 with THB 500 of credit, a beach sofa for two at THB 3,500 with THB 2,500, a pool lounger for two at THB 4,500 with THB 3,000, and a cabana for up to ten at THB 8,000 with THB 5,000. Pool and beach access, towels and showers are included. Bookings go by telephone, e-mail or online. The kitchen runs to wood-fired pizzas and barbecue, with cocktails.

Credit rather than a fee. On every place the operator sells, the greater part of the price is returned as spending at the bar and kitchen, so the day is in effect a minimum spend with a seat attached.

A pool facing the sea. The pool faces directly out to sea, with loungers set partly in its shallow water, and round sofas stand on the sand for the sunset.

Evenings and Sundays. From six to eight every evening the bar pours two drinks for the price of one, and on Sunday mornings there is floating yoga on the pool from eight to nine. Parties with visiting DJs happen, but not every day.
