Savvy on the Bay

Savvy on the Bay stands on Bay Street in Bridgetown, on Carlisle Bay, the long and calm bay on the south coast of Barbados on which the capital sits. The operator describes itself as a beach bar and food-truck park; the trucks stand behind the beach bar, and the grounds also serve as an event venue with gardens, used for weddings, corporate functions and fetes. The operator does not name its company or say when it opened, and earlier traded as Savvy on the Beach.

The day is sold by the lounger. A sun lounger with a share of a beach umbrella is rented per person for ten US dollars, a price the operator publishes; attendants meet guests on the sand, and drinks are ordered from the lounger. Washrooms, outdoor showers and changing facilities are on site. The operator gives its hours as twenty-four hours a day, every day, and takes contact by telephone and e-mail.

A published price and no gate. The lounger is rented to whoever asks, by the person, and the operator states no guest restriction, minimum spend or booking requirement.

More than a bar. Besides the beach and the food trucks, the operator lists a boutique, pickleball, entertainment, snorkel cruises, excursions, shuttles and tours, and points guests who want a room to a separate hotel, Eden on the Sea.

A bay for snorkelling. Carlisle Bay is used for diving and snorkelling: wrecks have been sunk there to draw marine life, and swimming with turtles is offered. The bay is long enough not to feel crowded, though several beach bars share it.
