Hype Beach Club
The beach bar of a Bonaire dive resort, open from eight in the morning to ten at night, with the day sold by the resort as a pass.
Hype Beach Club is the bar and kitchen on the beach at Eden Beach Resort, on the Bulevar Gobernador N. Debrot in Kralendijk, on Bonaire. The resort is built around diving: it keeps a Wannadive shop on site, tank service three times a day and shore-diving packages, and has added a new pier and an upgraded beach club. Hype is the name under which the resort's beach club now trades; neither the resort nor the club says who runs it or since when.
The day is sold by the resort rather than under the Hype name, as a day pass priced by where one lies: ten US dollars with a beach bed, thirty for a cabana for two people, five for a child under twelve. The pass gives the beach, a protected sea area, the swimming pools, restrooms and showers; food and drink, snorkelling, yoga and wifi are on site. The resort takes requests by WhatsApp and e-mail. The beach club is open daily from eight in the morning to ten at night.
A sheltered sea for swimmers. The pass includes a protected sea area as well as the pools, and snorkelling is offered from the resort's own beach.
Weekends with a programme. At weekends the club runs happy hours, DJs, salsa nights, R&B brunches, live music and special events, and the beach is hired out for weddings, birthdays and company events through a separate events line.
One bar from morning to night. The club keeps the same hours every day, from eight to ten, so lunch, afternoon drinks and the sunset are served from the same bar.
Who it is not for
Hype Beach Club is wrong for anyone who wants an independent club with its own door: the day is a resort pass, bought from the resort, and the beach, pools and pier are shared with the resort's own guests and divers. It is wrong for someone who wants quiet at weekends, when DJs, salsa nights and brunches fill the programme. And it is wrong for a large group wanting one shaded place, since a cabana is priced for two.
