Kanan Tulum Beach Club
The daytime beach club of an adults-only treehouse hotel at the southern end of Tulum's hotel zone, for which no public way to book the day was found.
Kanan Tulum Beach Club belongs to Kanan Tulum, an adults-only hotel and spa on the Carretera Tulum–Boca Paila, at the southernmost tip of the Tulum hotel zone in Mexico, where it borders the Sian Ka'an reserve and faces the Caribbean Sea. The hotel is built of tropical woods worked by local artisans, with treehouse suites, a rooftop and a spa.
The club is on the sand and has three kinds of place: beach beds, panoramic cabanas, and what the hotel calls nests, open structures made from bejuco roots. It runs every day from eleven in the morning to six in the evening, with cocktails, light food and resident DJs. The hotel can be reached by telephone, by e-mail and through OpenTable. On the operator's pages no public way to buy the day was found; what they describe is a guest pass, under which hotel guests may invite up to four people to the beach club or the rooftop during their stay.
Shade woven from roots. The nests, built from bejuco, are the club's own form of shelter and stand alongside the cabanas and beds on the sand.
At the edge of the reserve. The hotel stands where the hotel zone ends and the Sian Ka'an reserve begins.
Adults throughout. The hotel is adults-only, and its own restaurant pages describe the beach club in the same terms.
Who it is not for
Kanan Tulum Beach Club is wrong for anyone travelling with children: the hotel and its club are adults-only. It is wrong for a visitor who wants to reserve a bed without staying, because no public booking for the day was found on the operator's pages. And it is wrong for an evening by the water, as the club closes at six; the hotel's evening moves to its restaurant, Karma.
