Royal Beach Juan-les-Pins

The beach of the Hôtel Royal Antibes, on the town side of Antibes, sold by the sunbed on sand or on a raised dock.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · operator confirmation pending

Royal Beach is the beach of the Hôtel Royal Antibes, a four-star hotel at 16 boulevard Maréchal Leclerc in Antibes, between the town walls and the edge of Cap d'Antibes. The beach lies eighty metres from the hotel and a five-minute walk from the centre of Antibes. Despite the name under which it is often listed, it stands in Antibes itself, not in Juan-les-Pins.

The day is sold by the sunbed, umbrella included: thirty-five euros a day in the first row on the sand and thirty further back, forty-five in the first row on the raised dock. The hotel states plainly that the beach is open to outside guests, and bookings are taken by telephone and e-mail; first-row places are allocated on the day rather than in advance. In June, July and August the beach stays open into the evening for most of the week.

Sand and a dock. About a hundred and seventy loungers are spread between fine sand and a private dock raised above the water, which gives two different days at the same address.

Priced openly. The hotel publishes its rates row by row, for sand and dock alike.

Italian kitchen, a bar and a boat landing. The restaurant serves salads, carpaccios, fish, meat and pasta, the bar faces the Cap, and guests arriving by boat can be collected by tender.

Who it is not for

Royal Beach is wrong for someone who wants a guaranteed first-row place booked weeks ahead: those are given out on the day. It is wrong for anyone who wants a long sandy beach, since part of the beds stand on a dock. And it is wrong for someone who expects Juan-les-Pins, as some listings suggest: the address is in Antibes town.
