Belles Rives
The beach of a hotel opened in 1929 in Fitzgerald's former villa, selling sunbeds on sand and on a pontoon to anyone who books.
Plage Belles Rives lies below the Hôtel Belles Rives at Juan-les-Pins, on the Côte d'Azur. It is the hotel's own beach: a strip of fine golden sand, a solarium and a pontoon with a private landing stage, about two hundred metres from the Hôtel Juana and reached by the hotel's valet service or a path through the pines. The hotel is the former Villa Saint-Louis, where F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald stayed from 1925; Boma Estène and his wife Simone bought the villa in 1929 and made it a hotel. The Estène-Chauvin family has run it since, with Antoine Chauvin-Estène in charge from 2017.
The day is sold to the public. The operator publishes two rates, one public and one for residents, for a sunbed with parasol on the sand, in the front row on the sand, or on the pontoon; a cabin and towels are charged apart. In the spring period, from 20 April to 30 May 2026, a sand sunbed was 30 euro on the public rate, 40 in the front row and 55 on the pontoon. Booking is obligatory, online or by phone and e-mail, and the beach is open daily from nine to six, with lifeguards from half past eleven. For the summer of 2026, from May to September, the parasols and loungers were redesigned with Burberry.
Water-skiing at its source. The hotel places the first water-ski attempts in the bay in the 1920s, and runs its own water-ski club, with lessons offered from the age of three.
Lunch at the water. La Plage Belles Rives serves lunch on the beach and brings food to the loungers, and the operator states that the beach is accessible to guests with reduced mobility.
Who it is not for
Plage Belles Rives is wrong for anyone who wants to turn up and find a bed: reservations are obligatory. It is wrong for a group on a tight budget, since the pontoon and front row cost more than the sand behind them and towels and cabins are extra. And it is wrong for anyone who wants a wide open beach: this is a small hotel frontage of sand and pontoon.
