La Note Bleue
A private beach and restaurant on the Larvotto in Monaco, opened in 2001, rebuilt with the beach in 2021, and named for a jazz saxophonist.
La Note Bleue stands on the Plage du Larvotto, Monaco's beach facing the Avenue Princesse Grace, close to the Casino de Monte-Carlo. The Larvotto is mostly a public beach, open all year, along a promenade of some 300 metres; four private beaches share it, La Rose des Vents, Le Neptune, Miami Plage and La Note Bleue. Anne and Alain Tanzi founded the house in 2001. When the Larvotto was renovated, the club was reinvented with it in 2021, to designs by Emmanuel Pillot, Charlotte Alonzo and Leah Sekiou. The kitchen is led by Chef Laurent Paya, in post since 2002: Mediterranean cooking with crudo, ceviche and fish from the plancha.
The day is sold by the sunbed, and the sunbed by the row: the front row is the dearest and each row back is cheaper, with towel and parasol hired separately. Beds are booked by telephone or through the operator's online booking. The beach opens at half past eight in the morning and closes at seven in the evening; the restaurant runs from breakfast to dinner, seven days a week. A guide published by a neighbouring hotel gave the 2026 season as 28 February to 20 November.
Named for a musician. The operator calls the house a tribute to the saxophonist Barney Wilen. Music runs through the programme: live concerts and DJ sets in jazz, soul, funk, disco, Brazilian and Afro styles, with Wednesday evenings given over to it and more concerts from June.
One chef for over two decades. Laurent Paya has led the kitchen since the year after the opening, and the operator still names him today.
A price for every budget on the sand. Because the rows are priced apart, the same beach can be had at the water's edge or further back for less; the Monaco tourist office puts it simply as booking a lounger to suit your budget.
Who it is not for
La Note Bleue is wrong for anyone looking for seclusion: it is one of four private beaches side by side on a public city beach beside a busy promenade. It is wrong for someone who wants a sunbed in deep winter, since the 2026 season reported runs from late February to late November. And it is wrong for a guest who wants a quiet Wednesday evening, when the house becomes a music venue.
