La Réserve à la Plage

Michel Reybier's beach on Pampelonne, drawn with Philippe Starck, selling deck chairs by the day and closed until April 2027.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · operator confirmation pending

La Réserve à la Plage stands on Pampelonne, the long bay below Ramatuelle, on the route de l'Epi, in the commune of Ramatuelle rather than in Saint-Tropez. It belongs to La Réserve Ramatuelle, Michel Reybier's hotel on the chemin des Crêtes a few minutes inland, and the hotel describes the beach as created by Philippe Starck with Michel Reybier. Like the other houses on the bay it is a seasonal concession: at the start of October it had closed for the season, and the operator gives April 2027 for the reopening.

In season the beach opens every day from half past ten to half past six, and the kitchen serves from noon to four. The day is sold by the deck chair at a published price: eighty-five euros for a single chair and two hundred and fifty for a double. Tables are booked through an online reservation service or by telephone. The menu is Mediterranean and made for sharing, with grilled fish, meat and local vegetables, under the chef Nicolas Cantrel. There is a boutique, and parking with a valet.

Priced in the open. The deck chairs carry a printed daily price on the operator's own page, so the cost of the day is known before arrival.

A hotel beach that sells to the bay. The hotel's shuttle is offered to its guests, but the chairs and tables are sold on the beach's own page with no rule reserving them to residents.

More than lying down. The season brings live music, DJ sets, sand-golf games and photography shows, and the hotel advertises a brazier evening at sunset on Wednesdays.

Who it is not for

La Réserve à la Plage is wrong for anyone travelling between October and April, since it is closed until April 2027. It is wrong for a visitor counting the cost of a family day, because a single chair is published at eighty-five euros a day. And it is wrong for someone who wants a late dinner on the sand on most nights: the published hours end at half past six.
