Carlton Beach Club
The first private beach in Cannes, granted to the Carlton in 1930, with a pontoon over the bay and a lunch that ends at four.
The Carlton Beach Club lies on the Croisette in Cannes, on the sand in front of the hotel at number 58, facing the bay and the Estérel to the west. It belongs to the Carlton Cannes, now a Regent hotel in the IHG group. The hotel opened in 1913, built by the hotelier Henri Ruhl with the architect Charles Dalmas; in 1930 it obtained from the city the concession of a plot on the old Bains de la Croisette site, and the first private beach in Cannes began there. The hotel reopened after its long restoration on 13 March 2023.
The day is sold by the sunbed, to anyone, at a published tariff and without a hotel stay. In the September 2026 tariff a full day on the pontoon was 81 euros, in the first row 77 and in the rows behind 66, with lower rates from three in the afternoon and towels extra. The beach is open every day from ten to six; the restaurant serves lunch from noon to four. Reservations go to the beach by telephone or e-mail. The club closed for a short spell at the end of September 2026.
A pontoon as well as sand. Guests choose between the sand and a pontoon over the water, priced a step above the front row; a water-sports operator works from the same pontoon, with parasailing, water skiing, wakeboarding and towed buoys.
A film set in the house history. Hitchcock shot To Catch a Thief at the hotel in 1954, with Grace Kelly and Cary Grant.
Lunch, not dinner. The kitchen keeps to a simple, sunny midday menu and the beach empties at six. The site is accessible to guests with reduced mobility.
Who it is not for
The Carlton Beach Club is wrong for anyone who wants to stay on the sand into the evening: the beach shuts at six and the restaurant at four. It is wrong for someone hoping for a quiet bay, because the pontoon is also the base for towed water sports. And it is wrong for a long day on a tight budget, since even the back rows are charged by the person at full-day rates.
