Nomad Naxos

Nomad stands on Plaka, one of the longest beaches on Naxos, several kilometres of white sand backed by dunes on the south-west coast, some fifteen to twenty minutes south of Chora. The northern end of the beach carries the bars and newer venues; towards the south it is still largely undeveloped. Nomad is an all-day bar, next door to Patatosporos, a seafood tavern of the same group, which also keeps a pastry shop, Chouchouro, and a weddings and events business, Ammos. A travel guide says Nomad was set up by the founders of the 520 Bar in Chora; the operator names no owner and no opening year.

The day is a sunbed on the sand with drinks and food from the bar. The operator publishes no price for the sunbed and does not sell it online: its booking form is for tables and spaces, and reservations are also taken by telephone. Hours and season are not published by the operator. A review aggregator advises booking sunbeds a day ahead and avoiding the front row, which waves can reach.

Island cooking. The menu is Mediterranean, with lamb, beef souvlaki and the Naxian dishes rosto and kalogiros; the guide says produce comes from the group's own small farm and from local suppliers. Next door, the tavern serves fish, lobster, crab, mussels and calamari.

Built for gatherings. Nomad takes beach weddings, birthdays and bachelor parties for between six and a hundred and fifty people, and can send a private chef or mixologist anywhere on the island.

A step up on its stretch. The guide places it slightly above its neighbour Tohu and counts its cocktails among the best on the island.
