Cavo Psarou

A restaurant on Psarou beach since 1993, where the front rows of sunbeds carry a minimum spend and the rows behind do not.

Editorial entry · sources recorded · operator confirmation pending

Cavo Psarou stands on Psarou beach, on Mykonos, in the Cyclades. The operator dates the house to 1993. The same operation was earlier listed under the name Be Cool Psarou; the name on the operator's site is now Cavo Psarou. It is a restaurant with an outdoor bar, its sunbeds a few steps from the tables, and its kitchen grounded in Greek and Mediterranean cooking. It is open from the morning through the late afternoon, with parking alongside.

The day is sold as sunbed sets on the sand, against a minimum spend on the front rows. In June, September and October a minimum of fifty euro per set applies to the first row only; in July and August it applies to the first and second rows. The rows behind carry no minimum. The operator also welcomes people who stop only for a cocktail, a dessert or a light lunch. Bookings go through the operator's telephone line and e-mail.

A price that follows the calendar. The minimum spend widens from one row to two in the height of summer and narrows again in the shoulder months, so the same bed costs differently across the season.

A back row with no minimum. Beyond the rows that carry a spend, the beds have no minimum attached, which leaves a way onto the beach for those who want the sand more than the table.

Lunch without a bed. The operator's own words allow for a visit that is only a drink or a dessert, so the table does not depend on the bed.

Who it is not for

Cavo Psarou is wrong for anyone who wants the evening, because the operator describes a day that runs from morning to late afternoon. It is wrong for a couple who want the front row in July or August without spending at the table, since the minimum then covers two rows. And it is wrong for someone who wants to book a bed online, because the operator gives only a telephone line and an e-mail address.
