Gitano Dubai

Gitano Dubai stands on J1 Beach in Jumeirah, Dubai, on a man-made shore of the Arabian Gulf, with the Burj Khalifa and the city skyline behind it. J1 Beach took the place of La Mer South, whose demolition was announced in December 2022, and opened as a row of twelve places to eat and drink; Gitano is one of them. It opened in November 2024. The brand began in Tulum, in Mexico, where it keeps a beach club, a jungle restaurant and a small hotel, and it runs venues in New York; Dubai was its fifth location.

The site joins a modern Mexican restaurant, an indoor and outdoor bar, a rooftop bar and a stretch of beach. An independent review describes a boardwalk from the restaurant to the sand, with loungers and wooden cabanas there and a landscaped pool on the beach; the operator itself speaks of a beach lounge, a pool, cabanas and poolside lounging, and sells a single sunbed without saying whether it stands on the sand or at the pool. The day is sold by the lounger, as a pass whose price is redeemable against food and drink, with a lighter commitment on weekdays than at weekends. Bookings go through the operator's online reservation system and by e-mail.

A night venue with a beach attached. The restaurant and bars stay open into the early hours, the operator programmes parties from Thursday to Saturday, and the bar lists more than sixty agave spirits. The beach closes in the early evening; the house carries on.

Born somewhere else, on purpose. The founder's line at the opening was that the Dubai house was not Tulum-inspired but born in Tulum. The rooms are dressed in wooden tables, plants, neon pink signage and disco balls.

The pool before the sea. The only lounger rates found from an independent source were for the pool, not for the sand. What a day on the beach itself costs was not read.
