One Fire Beach

One Fire Beach lies in the cove of Cala della Gavitella at Praiano, between Praiano and Positano on the Amalfi Coast. It was founded in 2003 by Costabile Pane and Luca Savarese, built, in the operator's words, in the most rugged part of the place thanks to the stubbornness and determination of the locals. It is reached by a free shuttle boat from the main pier at Positano and from Marina di Praia, or on foot from the church of San Gennaro in Praiano, down about four hundred steps.

The day is sold by the sunbed, in tiers by row: Sea View in the front row, Exclusive in the second, Orange in the third and fourth, and a PPC Experience with champagne service and a personalised tasting menu. Bookings go through an online beach-booking service, WhatsApp and e-mail. The operator publishes no price. The season runs from May to October, from ten in the morning to eight in the evening, with a lifeguard, showers, changing rooms and a landing stage.

Priced by distance from the water. Every place on the sand is named by its row, so what a guest books is how close to the sea they lie.

Melon at half past four. Every afternoon at four thirty the beach stops for Melon Time; the kitchen otherwise serves the plain food of the coast, from local fruit and vegetables.

The evening moves next door. When One Fire closes at eight, it sends its guests on to Kasai, its evening address, where it also holds wine tastings.
