La Canzone del Mare

La Canzone del Mare stands at Via Marina Piccola 93, on the bay of Marina Piccola on Capri's southern coast, looking across to the Faraglioni. The day is spent on terraces above the sea; below them is a small pebble beach that is not equipped, and a private jetty for guests who come by water. The road reaches it: a short bus or taxi ride from the Piazzetta, or the walk down the Via Krupp. The boat from Da Luigi ai Faraglioni lands here.
The club was created by Gracie Fields, the English music-hall singer and comedienne, at an old fort above the bay. The sources place its beginnings between the late 1940s and the 1950s; by 1954 Slim Aarons was photographing its pool. There are two saltwater pools, one with massage jets, terraces set with sunbeds, beach cabins with their own bathrooms, a snack bar and a restaurant open at lunch. The season closes in mid-October and reopens in late April. The Diva Suites let a stay run through the night.
Who it is not for
La Canzone del Mare is wrong for anyone who wants to swim from sand: the beach below the terraces is small, pebble and not equipped, and the day turns on the pools. It is wrong for a visitor outside the season, between mid-October and late April. And it is wrong for someone who wants the sea at the foot of the stacks themselves. For that, Da Luigi ai Faraglioni and La Fontelina sit on the rocks below the Faraglioni, reached on foot or by boat.
