Tao Beach
A lido on Mazzarò bay below Taormina, three minutes down by cable car from the town.
Tao Beach stands on Mazzarò, the small bay between Capo Mazzarò and Capo Sant'Andrea below Taormina, once a fishing village. The beach is sand and fine pebble. It is reached by the cable car from the centre, a three-minute ride, or down the steps of Via Castelluccio.
The day is sold as an umbrella and two loungers, at between eighty and one hundred and fifty euro, and VIP cabanas are sold above that at three hundred and eighty-five to four hundred. There are several other establishments on the same small bay, and stretches where a towel on the sand costs nothing.
Who it is not for
Tao Beach is wrong for anyone who wants a long beach to walk: Mazzarò is a small bay between two headlands. It is wrong for a visitor who comes in July or August expecting room to spare, because the bay is the one the town goes down to. For two kilometres of sand and pebble, Letojanni lies a few kilometres up the coast.
