Gilda

Gilda stands at Viale Italico 85 in Forte dei Marmi, on the Lungomare Italico a few minutes from the centre of the town, on the Versilia coast between the Apuan Alps and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was started in 1984 by Adua Minari, from Emilia, with her husband Luigi Tabarani; the name joins Adua, Gigi and Ilda. Ilda and Riccardo run it now with their three children, and the founder still bakes for the house. Under one name it is a restaurant, a beach club and a guest house, Villa Gilda.

The day is sold by the tent or the umbrella. There are ninety tents and fifteen umbrellas, with ninety cabins. A tent holds two sunbeds, two deckchairs, two director's chairs and a table; an umbrella the same with one director's chair. Booking goes through an online widget and by telephone; in high season and at weekends the club does not guarantee a place without one. The beach is open from April to September. The house publishes rates only for Villa Gilda's own guests; the full rate for others is not published.

Tents rather than rows. With ninety tents against fifteen umbrellas, most of the beach is let as tents, each furnished for the day with its own table.

A restaurant in its own right. The kitchen serves lunch and dinner inside and out, with a light lunch menu for the beach; a restaurant guide named it best beach restaurant for 2024.

One family for four decades. The founder's family runs all three parts of the house, and the founder still welcomes guests.
