Balena Beach Club (Bagno Balena)

The Balena Beach Club, the Bagno Balena, stands on Via Gustavo Modena on the seafront of Viareggio, on the Versilia coast of Tuscany, about a kilometre and a half from the centre of the town and a little less from the station. It is a stabilimento balneare, a bathing establishment on the sand. The house is more than a century old, and its entrance of 1928 was designed by Alfredo Belluomini; the operator presents it as uniting Liberty architecture with present-day services. It is operated by the company SEA S.R.L., registered in Milan.

The day is sold as sunbeds, umbrellas and cabins, with access to the pools and the hydromassage. Umbrellas are booked through an online beach-booking widget or by telephone. No price is published. The beach is open every day from eight in the morning to eight in the evening; the bar and restaurant, which serve drinks, snacks and light dishes, from ten to eight.

Pools on the sand. Besides the sea, the house has several swimming pools and a hydromassage pool.

A sporting beach. There are courts for beach volleyball and beach tennis, and a play area for children.

Open to more than the able-bodied adult. The beach is presented as accessible to wheelchairs, and dogs and other pets are admitted.
