Nikki Beach Santorini
A resort on the black sand of Monolithos, near Santorini's airport, whose beach club sells sunbed packages against a minimum spend to anyone who books.
Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Santorini stands on Monolithos beach, at Agia Paraskevi on the Aegean, on the island's black volcanic sand and five minutes from the international airport. It is a hotel of sixty-two rooms and suites, thirty-five of them with private pools, with a 25-metre pool and a rooftop infinity pool, and it keeps a restaurant and beach club on the sand. The operator calls it the island's only beachfront resort.
The day is sold as sunbed packages at the beach club. In the operator's words, beach club sunbeds carry a minimum-spending package for all guests, while people staying at the hotel use the beach sunbeds and the beach club pool without charge. Packages are booked by e-mail with the resort. A bed booking for the pool or the beach must be cancelled forty-eight hours ahead, or the whole package can be charged. An independent guide confirms that one need not be staying at the resort to use the club. No price for a day on the sand was read.
Black sand, not white. Monolithos is one of the island's volcanic beaches, and the club sits directly on its dark sand.
No young children at the pool. The beach club pool is closed to children under twelve, who remain welcome on the beach and in the restaurant. During special events an eighteen-and-over rule may apply to the whole venue.
Parties as well as beds. The club holds the brand's White Parties and a summer programme that runs from rosé afternoons to sets by international DJs.
Who it is not for
Nikki Beach Santorini is wrong for a family with children under twelve who want the pool, since the beach club pool is closed to them. It is wrong for anyone who wants to know the cost of a day before writing to book, because no beach price was found. It is wrong for a traveller who cannot commit two days ahead, given the forty-eight-hour cancellation rule. And it is wrong for someone who wants a quiet beach on an event day.
