Ocean Club Marbella

Nine thousand square metres around one saltwater pool, a few minutes' walk from the yachts of Puerto Banús.

Above the bar · not a beach club by the register's test: the operator's sunbeds stand on a pool deck, not on the sand · not counted in the register's totals

Ocean Club stands on the beach at Puerto Banús, the marina José Banús opened in 1970, seven kilometres west of Marbella. The club occupies a section of beachfront a short walk from the port, with a view across the Mediterranean. Buses run from Marbella.

The club covers nine thousand square metres and is built around a large oval saltwater pool. The day is sold as a bed: sunbeds of several sizes are rented around the pool deck, which looks over both the pool and the sea. Lunch is served at the restaurant, Amaï. The season opens with a party, usually on the last weekend of April. Resident DJs play on Saturdays, and Sunday is given to champagne parties. The club was refurbished and reopened in May 2025.

The pool is the room. The beach is the club's edge rather than its floor: the day turns on the water in the middle of the deck, with the sea as its view.

Who it is not for

Ocean Club is wrong for anyone who wants a quiet day on a summer weekend: Saturdays belong to the DJs and Sundays to the champagne parties. It is wrong for a guest who comes to swim in the sea, because the day turns on the pool. And it is wrong for someone who turns up on a July weekend without a booking, when the beds sell out days ahead. For a quieter day on the same coast, the Marbella Club beach club lies a few steps from the sea.
